The CAD file opens inside the Redmine issue.
Someone attaches a drawing or a 3D model to an issue. Purchasing, quality and planning have no CAD seat, so the decision waits until an engineer exports a screenshot — every day. CAD Viewer removes that wait: the file opens in the browser, read-only, for anyone already allowed to see the attachment. Nothing to install on the workstation, no per-seat licence, no request leaving your server.
In August 2026 we swept all 868 plugins listed in the official Redmine directory, searching for CAD, STEP, STL, IGES, DWG, DXF, 3D and BIM. The search returned no CAD viewer — free or paid. That gap is why this plugin exists.

The Community edition is a real viewer for the open formats, free for good. Pro is the complete tool: the closed and heavy formats, measuring and dimensions, sheets, backgrounds and revision comparison. Both come with the source.

The file opens next to the conversation about it. No download, no export, no "can you send me a screenshot".
Its own engine
Written for this plugin: no CDN, no third-party viewer, no request leaving the server — checked with the network cable pulled.
Redmine's permissions
It obeys the attachment permissions Redmine already enforces. Nobody sees a file they could not already see.
Thumbnails in the attachment block
Drawings show the preview they already carry next to the file name, so a list of files stops being a list of names.
Drawings the way they were drawn (Pro)
Model and every layout as tabs, viewports to scale, blocks, hatches, dimensions and text — and measuring with snap to the geometry.
Heavy 3D (Pro)
Native CAD files, assemblies with their tree, section cuts, exploded view, point clouds and 3D PDF in the same window.
Install
Copy, restart, open a file
A standard Redmine plugin: unzip it into plugins/, run the plugin
migration and restart. No core files edited, no extra gems, nothing to configure
before the first file opens. Target matrix: Redmine 6.1.6 and 7.0.3 — compatibility
